‘We’re all scared’: Two dead in shooting at Okolona apartment complex

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville Metro police are investigating the shooting deaths of two men in the Falcon Crest Apartments in the Okolona area.

Officers were called to the 9000 block of Napa Valley Court around 10:15 a.m. They found two young men who had been shot multiple times. Both men died at the scene.

LMPD spokesman John Bradley said the ages of the men are not known, and police cannot say at this time if they are adults or juveniles.

LMPD Homicide is handling the investigation. No arrests have been made in the case.

Christina Short, who lives in the apartment complex, said she had never seen violence like this in her neighborhood. However, she said crowds of boys gathering at that complex had become a more common issue.

“Crowds of boys in masks, you know, none of us can identify them,” she pointed out. “And we’re all scared to even try because, what if they try to come to us and try to harm us for trying to protect our community?”

Short used to live on Napa Valley Court, but now she lives up the road. She said she came running down to support her former neighbors when she heard of the shooting.

“They’re scared to walk out of their apartment,” she mentioned, referring to her neighbors, many of them she said have become like family to her. “They’re scared for their family. They’re scared for their kids. They’re scared of what might come through their walls. And for me to live just right up there, I’m scared.”

People showed up to the crime scene throughout the morning crying and grieving together.

Short said the violence makes her want to leave Louisville altogether.

“I want out of Louisville,” she emphasized. “It’s horrible. I want out of here, and this is my home. I’ve moved. I’ve moved to Nashville and came home because I missed home, but this ain’t home no more. It’s not. Napa Valley, this court, Napa Valley, we are family. None of this happens here.”
