LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) —

It’s that time of the year again! The leaves are going to start to change soon. Some of you may have even noticed some very minor changes in some of the leaves across a few trees in our area. However, the real Fall foliage will begin here in just a few weeks!

Current Fall Foliage

What does the current state of our fall foliage look like right now? Since it’s just now getting into October, there isn’t a whole lot of change going on with most trees in our area. While you may see some minor color change here or there, all of the trees are not burning with beautiful reds and oranges just yet.

Right now, our entire area is still in “low color”. That doesn’t mean that there is none, but there isn’t really a lot widespread across our area just yet.

When does our foliage peak?

Our foliage will take longer to peak than states further to our north that get cooler a little earlier than the rest of us do during the Fall. With that being said, we may not be as far away as you may think!

In our area, we usually peak with fall foliage sometime in Late October. That’s just 3 weeks from now!

Now, that’s not always the case. A lot of that relies heavily on the weather we have seen in recent weeks/months. When the weather is cooler and more wet, we typically see these colors come a little earlier and are often brighter. When it’s been hot and dry, those colors can be a little more dull and take longer to come to fruition. We will continue to update our weekly fall foliage graphic to see how we have progressed as we go through the rest of the month!
