Classmates share their cultures at Atherton High School WorldFest
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) — A local high school hosted its own version of one of Louisville’s biggest festivals.
Atherton High School continued its tradition Friday of hosting its very own WorldFest and giving students the chance to put together booths highlighting their cultures.
Kids were able to learn more about their peers through food, music and clothing, and had the chance to connect on a deeper level.
“I didn’t start off with any friends, but when I did my booth and I showed off who I was and what I’m proud of and I got to joke around and meet a lot of new people, I made a lot of new friends and I felt more comfortable being here at school,” Atherton senior Christina said. “It’s okay to be yourself, really. To always be proud of what you stand for, where you’re from, and I think everybody should be comfortable being who they are.”
This year, Atherton hosted the event in the fall to help students get to know each other early on in the school year.
School leaders said they are now planning to host another big student-led event this spring in honor of Black History Month.
