Davis and McCoughtry shining bright in Olympic Games

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two superstar athletes who blossomed right here in the Commonwealth are lighting it up in London.
Both Anthony Davis and Angel McCoughtry are making the Olympic highlight reel.
There's no question Davis and McCoughtry, former University of Kentucky and University of Louisville stars are two of the hottest players the Bluegrass ever helped develop.
Now, the world is getting a glimpse of what we already know.
U of L Fan Derek Gerton told WAVE 3 News of the two stars, "They're fun to watch and they're representing us very well."
Until the games get a prime time spot, fans here in Louisville, have been searching the dial and calling businesses around town like Buffalo Wild Wings in the Highlands. That's where they found Davis and Team USA blowing away Nigeria in a record breaking 156-73 win Thursday afternoon.
On Wednesday night, they saw McCoughtry put up 18-points leading the U.S. Women past Turkey 89-58.
Kentucky fan Calvin Rhodes told us, "Angel, you know, she already has a big name in the WNBA so, I knew she was going to be able to do her thing." Gerton added, " It really does impress me, but I'm not surprised because what she's doing, I expect her to do and I want to see Anthony Davis get a little more playing time too."
As for the NBA rookie? He seems more like a vet alongside the likes of Kobe, LeBron and Carmello. Gerton said, "When he ( Davis) does play, he's not nervous or anything and he fits in well!
Kentucky fan Rick O' Neil agreed about Davis, "It looks like he's going to fit right in and have a pretty smooth transition into the pros and he's doing the same thing he did at UK, he's throwing it down." Rhodes added, "Coming out of college now people can see he's the real deal."
Fans believe it will be hard for Davis to top 2012. O'Neil told us, "Only being 19, and coming off the (national) championship and just having the best year of his life and now he has a chance to play for an Olympic medal it's pretty incredible!"
From Louisville and Lexington to London and hopefully all the way to gold.
"It's fun to watch for everybody, UK and U of L fans," O'Neil said. Rhodes agreed, "We're a basketball town and now everybody else can see that."
Next: McCoughtry and the U.S. women take on the Czech Republic Friday at 5:15. Davis and the Team USA men play Lithuania Saturday morning at 9:30.
