LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - For the third consecutive year Ford Motor Company says it will shorten the annual summer shutdown at some of its plants in order to meet the demand by consumers for vehicles.

Among the facilities affected is the Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP) on Fern Valley Road where the Ford Escape and Lincoln MKC are made.

Workers at Louisville's other Ford plant, the Kentucky Truck Plant on Chamberlain Lane in northeastern Jefferson County, will have the full two week shutdown from June 29 to July 10.

Ford said that there's strong demand for its F-150 pickups, as well as vehicles like the Escape, Explorer and the Edge, a mid-size crossover. By keeping the plants open an extra week, the automaker says it cam produce an additional 40,000 vehicles during the summer.

Judd Templin, a Ford spokesman, said the one week shutdown at LAP will take place the week of June 29.
