Items seized during arrests to be auctioned off
LEITCHFIELD, KY (WAVE) – Hundreds of items in Grayson County have been taken from the hands of criminals and will be auctioned off to tax payers.
The Grayson County Sheriff's Office and Detention Center will partner up for an auction to get rid of items seized during criminal acts. The money will go into bank accounts for both county offices to purchase equipment in order to operate.

Although both offices receive tax dollars at the beginning of each year, Sheriff Norman Chaffins said the proceeds from the auction help with expenses, such as office supplies and other equipment, when the tax dollars are spread thin.
The auction will range from electronics, tools, kitchen dishes and bedding. A majority of the lesser expensive items are brand new and are a result of a single criminal case. Other auction items range from automobiles, such as vans, trucks and cars.
"We just purchased four new vehicles from the city for $8,500, so we are trying to make back some of that money to put back into our drug fund," Chaffins said.
The items being auctioned were housed in the evidence vault for months. The evidence was disposed by the courts and insurance money was paid to the victims.
The auction is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. CST at the Grayson County Detention Center, located at 320 Shaw Station Road.
Concessions will be sold on site at the Grayson County Detention Center. Proceeds from concessions will help fund a scholarship created by the jail.
