LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Getting kids motivated to read can be a challenge, which is what prompted major changes to one Jefferson County Public School library.
Okolona Elementary library made some major changes. The library is now more like a bookstore instead of a typical library.
Students can browse through books by subject rather than the traditional Dewey Decimal System.
The new layout is called the Bookstore Model Library.
Even though they will not follow the system, students will still learn about the Dewey Decimal System.
The library format is the first of its kind in JCPS and in the state of Kentucky.
