Fortune 500 firm to create 750 jobs in Louisville
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - When the economy plunged for the worse in 2007, Kentucky's unemployment also plunged to 11 percent at the recession's height. On Jan. 14, Governor Steve Beshear and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced the creation of 750 new jobs and another step in moving Kentucky into a new year.
Teleperformance is an industry leading customer service management firm. The Ormsby Station location will serve a Fortune 500 company that provides financial and retirement planning for current and former military.
The governor says that building a Commonwealth where businesses can build, blossom and boost Kentucky workers is a priority.
"That 750 represents 750 Kentucky families that will have financial security," said Beshear. "Teleperformance is the kind of business we want more of in the Commonwealth."
Tax incentives for the company were approved for up to $3.8 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. By meeting targeted investment goals, a company, such as Teleperformance, retains a portion of its investment thorough corporate income tax credits and wage assessments. The governor said that these tax incentives on the state level have promoted "700 business projects and represent 10 billion dollars" with Teleperformance as the newest endeavor.
A 2015 initiative within Teleperformance to hire 5,000 veterans and their families heightened the appeal of Louisville as the site for their new location. In 2014, Louisville was ranked in the top 30 best cities for veterans based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The facility hired a former Marine as site leader and is looking to hire more local workers providing customer services to veteran and current military families. Fischer said that the opening of Teleperformance in Louisville will enhance the "security, stability and brighter futures of those who've sacrificed for our country."
"Louisville is an ideal city for companies like our and we are excited to be a part of this great community," said Miranda Collard, Teleperformance President of Operational Delivery, in a press release.
"This facility represents $13.2 million in investments and the creation of 250 new jobs for Jefferson County, Louisville and the Commonwealth," said Beshear.
State Representative Ron Crimm of Louisville and state Senator Julie Adams were among the crowd welcoming Teleperformance and their investments in the state.
Teleperformance, which was founded in 1978, employs 175,000 employees worldwide. The 50,000 square foot site on Ormsby Station Road opened its doors about four months ago and has invested $13.2 million into the project. The company serves 62 countries and operates customer service in 63 languages.
