Why eating dinner as a family is so important
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – We all know dinner time is a busy time. From helping your kids with homework to cleaning up the house, sometimes it feels like there's not enough time in the day to get everything done.
But family experts say block everything out; time at the table with your family is crucial to a healthy household.
Anne Fishel is a mom and a family counselor. She's been studying household dynamics for years and says eating meals as a family improves
teenage behaviors, increases toddler vocabulary, and teaches healthy eating.

Manners 101 - Don't play with your food. But Fishel says the opposite. Cook together, pick out ingredients, mix and match flavors and have
fun with it.
Showing off at the dinner table is actually a good thing. Families should tell stories and share experiences with each other. It's proven that children who know their family history are more resilient and feel better about themselves.
"How was your day?" is an easy go-to, but take it further. Fishel wants everyone to share a rose - a positive story, a thorn - a negative one, and a bud - what you wish will happen tomorrow.
